In Elane Photography, LLC v. Willock, the New Mexico Supreme Court held that a photography company could not discriminate against identical sex couples and must provide them service, regardless of their personal religious views.

Our work includes fighting for equitable treatment by the government; protecting Homosexual people from discrimination in jobs, schools, housing, and universal accommodations; and operational for equal rights for same-sex couples and their families.
In 2013, the ACLU of New Mexico filed Griego v. Oliver on behalf of five queer couples, asking the courts to affirm that the Recent Mexico State Constitution does not prohibit gay and queer woman couples from marrying. In December of that same year, the New Mexico State Supreme Court heard Griego v. Oliver and commanded that same-sex couples could legally wedding in New Mexico, making New Mexico the 17th express with full marriage equality.
The ACLU of New Mexico continues fighting for the rights of Gay people beyond marriage, and remains dedicated to fighting discrimination and ensuring impartial treatment for all.
LGBTQ Collaborative
The LGBTQ Collaborative is an employee resource team within the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). The group supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer employees, patients, families, friends and allies.

Thanks to decades of organizing by LGBTQ+ communities, organizations, and allies, New Mexico is currently considered one of the most protected states for LGBTQ+ individuals in the country, with robust anti-discrimination laws and policies in place.
In New Mexico...
- You have the right to seek health care to affirm your gender identity.
- You have the right to make your own confidential decisions about sexual and reproductive health care, including the right to procure tested or treated for STIs.
- NO public accommodation, including publicly funded organizations (for example, a school, homeless shelter, or health center) can discriminate against you based on your gender identity, sex or sexual orientation.
- NO public body, enjoy a school or town council, can discriminate against you for accessing or seeking gender-affirming care or reproductive health care.
- Conversion therapy for minors is prohibited in New Mexico.
- Your right to marry is protected federally and by the state.
