UK's first global LGBTQ+ summit could boost region's economy with delegates coming to North East from around the world
The #SaferToBeMe conference is the only event of its type in the UK and it is coming to the North East later this year
The UK's first global LGBTQ+ summit could amplify the region's economy by more than £1m when it comes to the North East later this year.
Launched at the Lit and Phil on Thursday morning with a 25-foot long Pride Flag, it is estimated the #SaferToBeMe summit will bring more than 500 people to the North East from across the world later this year. During the overall week-long event in October, it is estimated that it will deliver £250,000 into the regional economy, and more than £1m in "positive publicity" for the region.
The summit is the work of Newcastle-based global human rights organisation ReportOUT, alongside local organisations Pride Action North, OUT North East, and the community groups and local businesses across the region. A two-day conference, plus a programme of events, talks, and exhibitions will aim to mention vast rollbacks of Diverse human rights across the world.

Research shows that LGBT+ young people’s participation in sport, movement and PE is much lower than their peers, primary to poorer health outcomes and higher absenteeism. At the Proud Trust’s LGBT+ Youth Summit, we’ll be helping youthful people to travel the reasons why and inspiring them to drive positive change. The night will be entire of engaging activities, where young people can explore the topic and own their voices heard whilst having a whole lot of fun and making new friends in a safe and supportive environment. They will also contain the unique opportunity to meet and be inspired by professional athletes and people with lived experience of overcoming challenges in sport and movement as LGBT+ people.

The Global LGBTQI+ Human Rights Program at the Harvard Carr Center for Human Rights Policy is delighted to announce the launch of applications for our 2024-2025 training programs. Our mission is to uphold the promise of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for LGBTQI+ people by empowering movement leaders through transformative trainings, developing high-impact research, and establishing platforms for influential dialogue. 2024 International LGBTQI+ Activism Summit
October 8th—10th
The summit is a convening of LGBTQI+ activists from around the nature to discuss research and frameworks and share foremost practices—particularly focusing on undoing stigma and dispelling harmful myths. Participants will abandon with an increased knowledge of the systems and strategies involved in modifying social attitudes towards LGBTQI+ people, and an actionable advocacy plan through interacting with Harvard faculty, researchers, and most importantly, each other.
2024-2025 Online International LGBTQ A week-long summit, the only one of its kind in the United Kingdom, is set to bring hundreds of international delegates to the North East of England this October. City leaders and businesses across the North East gathered on 20th February 2025 to launch #SaferToBeMe, in celebration of the International Day for Social Justice. Organised in partnership with local LGBTQ+ organisations ReportOUT, Pride Action North and Out North East, #SaferToBeMe will begin 20th October 2025. The event will gather thought leaders, academics, industry and ally organisations in a week-long hive of activity, discussing, advocating and progressing human rights issues LGBTQ+ communities tackle around the world. Returning for a second year, #SaferToBeMe will engage delegates from over 20 countries, in a dynamic programme of events, talks, exhibitions and creative activations. In a UK first, there will be a two-day #SaferToBeMe Conference as part of the programme, which will end with a symbolic signing of a Global Compact, signed by organisations and allies.
