The Arcila-Adams Trans Resource Center creates cosmos for trans folks build community among each other. They offer space for trans folks to run programs, prioritizing BIPOC communities. Activating an Activist’s Wealth
A long-time advocate for the LGBTQ community left an unprecedented legacy.
As a child growing up in South Philly, Mel Heifetz made a promise to give back to his community when he had the means. Today, he is a victorious entrepreneur and concrete estate investor recognizable across the land for his endorse of gay and civil rights. Mel established the GLBT Fund of America at the Philadelphia Foundation in 2007, which was created to advance the GLBT community in areas such as civil rights, social justice and health needs. In 2017, he endowed an incredible $16 million to the fund, which will help causes he cares about in perpetuity.

The Office of LGBTQ+ Affairs works to foster equitable working and living conditions for lesbian, gay, multi-attracted , transgender, queer, intersex, asexual individuals, and additional members of the LGBTQ+ collective. The office advocates for LGBTQ+ issues across all areas of City government.
Created in 2008 by mayoral executive order, the Office of LGBTQ+ Affairs became a permanent part of the City’s charter in 2015. The office aims to:
- Develop City policy regarding civil rights issues affecting LGBTQ+ people.
- Help enact policies and programs to gather the City’s diversity, equity, inclusion goals.
- Coordinate among Municipality departments, agencies, and offices to improve LGBTQ+ access to services, and to promote equity and protection for LGBTQ+ people.
- Support the growth and development of the City’s LGBTQ+ communities and serve as a liaison between the area’s LGBTQ+ communities and the City.
- Provide education about the needs of the Gay community.

The lively neighborhood is home to a significant portion of Philadelphia’s 60,000 LGBTQ+ residents. The 16-square-block area proposals a slew of LGBTQ+-owned and -friendly bars, restaurants, shops, theaters and institutions, plus 36 rainbow road signs and two rainbow crosswalk intersections.
