With a proposed bill in the Idaho Legislature that would effectively make it possible for doctors, teachers and business owners to discriminate against members of the LGBTQ community on the basis of “sincerely held religious beliefs,” coming to Idaho for institution or work is something that might be frightening for many people who identify as LGBTQ.

University of Idaho students Eric Orosco and Nathan Austin have been dating for about three months. While Idaho is recognized as a widely conservative state, many organizations at UI strive to make the campus more LGBTQ friendly. Though not all Idaho universities are as welcoming according to some college students.

But changes for the LGBTQ group are not just seen in U.S. politics. Today, more college students are comfortable with their sexuality and have the chance to be themselves on campus.

University of Idaho students Eric Orosco and Nathan Austin said even though Idaho as a state seems to be against gay marriage, people on campus and of their generation seem to be more accepting. They said they feel free to be open about their relationship at UI.

A display featuring LGBT-related books at Northwest Nazarene University (NNU) was removed several days after Articulate Sen. Brian Lenney (R-Nampa) posted about it on social media.

On June 6, Lenney posted a picture of a display located in the Education, Social Work, and Counseling building on NNU’s campus. NNU is a private Christian university located in Nampa.

Here is the picture that Lenney posted on X,

Some of the books included in the display are “Everything You Wanted to Know About Trans,” “Conservative Christian Views and Sexual Orientation in Social Work,” and “LGBTQ People & Issues, an Integrative Approach.”

Lenney commented on his X post, saying,

“While BSU closes down their DEI centers, NNU doubles down on woke.”

Yesterday, Lenney posted a video update showing that the display had been taken down. Here is a still shot of the display:

Idaho Dispatch asked Lenney what prompted him to do the initial post and what reaction he has had from institution administrators, if any. Lenney responded by saying,

“I heard about the pro-LGBT show at NNU from some pe

After delivering the ruling on Saturday evening (July 28) against the Rev. Thomas Jay Oord of Nampa, Idaho, the court stripped Oord of his preaching credentials and expelled him from membership in the 2.5-million-member global denomination.

“We, the members of the Regional Board of Discipline, unanimously discover to a moral certainty and beyond a reasonable disbelief … that Thomas Jay Oord is guilty of behavior unbecoming a minister and of learning doctrines out of harmony with the doctrinal statement of the Church of the Nazarene,” the court found.

The Church of the Nazarene holds that “the practice of gay sexual intimacy is contrary to God’s will.”

Oord’s trial, which took place in Boise on Thursday (July 25), follows last year’s ashamed verdict against Selden Kelley, then a San Diego Nazarene minister, who was also defrocked as a result. Ke

Nazarene Pastor Charged on LGBTQ Advocacy

A Church of the Nazarene minister advocating for “full queer inclusion” has been brought up on charges and faces an upcoming trial that could result in removal of his credentials as an ordained minister.

Thomas Jay Oord has been charged with teaching doctrines contrary to the Church of the Nazarene and with deeds unbecoming of a minister for his efforts to move the denomination to affirm same-sex behavior.

The charges are the latest indication that human sexuality disputes that have divided mainline Protestant denominations are also surfacing in Wesleyan-Holiness churches.

Oord currently serves as Professor of Theology at Northwind Theological Seminary, an ecumenical, online interdenominational seminary with roots in the Wesleyan tradition. He is co-editor of Why the Church of the Nazarene should be Fully LGBTQ+ Affirming, a volume published in 2023.

“In early August of 2023, Nazarene [Intermountain] District Superintendent Scott Shaw gave me a document with two charges,” Oord recounted in a video made available on his YouTube channel. “Both of these charges pertain to the fact that I’m a straight, cisgender male who fully

Earlier this year, I came across what is now a 34 page letter outlining some concerns about NNU by a recent graduate of the school, Sean Killackey (BA Religious Studies). This letter covers several topics, most notably LGBT issues. If what it says is accurate, there are several pro-LGBT professors within the College of Theology and Christian Ministries (CTCM).

Shortly after reading this letter and looking through the various pieces of evidence this student had accumulated, I wrote to several CTCM faculty whom he had mentioned. I asked them questions such as: “Do you believe that queer practices and gay marriage are sinful transgressions of God’s law?” While I did not receive any direct answers to these questions from the faculty whom I had contacted, I did have a brief email correspondence with one of the professors, Dr. Richard Thompson, Professor of New Testament and Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion.

Our conversation did not delete the concerns that I had as a outcome from reading this letter. While he described it as “filled with material taken out of context, misconstrued, misquoted . . . if not perhaps fabricated, and/or seriousl
