Long ago when the pyramids were still juvenile, Egyptian Kings played a game of great and terrible power. These “shadow games” erupted into a war that threatened to destroy the entire earth, until a brave and powerful pharaoh locked the magic away; Imprisoning it within the mystical millennium items. You realize what’s interesting about the ‘star-crossed’ kind of relationship that Kaiba and Atem contain going on?
That trope sensible, it’s wrong.
Think about any story about reincarnated friends or lovers (you can go platonic or non-platonic, it works the same) and god knows there are a lot of them out there. You can fit Priest Set and Atem into those moulds - fine. But then it gets messed up.
Because in all of those stories, you get reincarnated and find each other - recreating old friendships/love all over again.
But that doesn’t happen here.
If we were to follow that pattern, the clear relationship should be between Kaiba and Yugi. But it isn’t. Yugi almost gets pushed to the side - the puzzle, stating his sacrifice is for the pharaoh rather than leaving it ambiguous, the ending.
It’s always about Kaiba and Atem.
Atem, who puts so much weight in fate and destiny seems to neglect that he was never really supposed to be here. it almost makes me wonder - perform we know that Atem even thought that Yugi was his reincarnation? It’s been a while. I know you&rsq

Well while I personally am not prone to using the phrase ‘hella gay’, if I were to refer to him as such, it would be because I interpret Kaiba as being queer, as shown by his obsessive interest and desire to be with Atem; to the aim of accepting areas such as magic which he has shown strong aversion to previously, representing a depth of emotional reaction to his lack of presence that is otherwise highly atypical to his ethics, and creating a reality warping Dimension Cannon beyond all known limitations of science in instruction to reach him in the Afterlife.
Signs that it is more than just a simple crave for victory contain narrative and cinematographic decisions in DSoD, such as the hiding of his eyes after he tells Yugi he sacrificed himself ‘For the Pharaoh’ - which is used in the main series when telling us that Kaiba’s experiencing strong emotion. Also the decision to look heartbroken when the Puzzle does not bring advocate Atem rather than anger -the more logical choice for his character and the situation if it were simply the need to fight his former rival. Obviously this is an anime, and as other features such as eyes, ears, and legs are exaggerated I feel it is safe to interpret the length of hair as exagerrated as successfully.
This is a convenient assumption because otherwise, spiking shoulder-lrngth hair into seven (minimum) rigid vertical spikes would be impossible to maintain.
Assuming a real-life Yugio haircut could exist as inspiration got this approach, I imagine a haircut that is either compact and spiked in the back with natural bangs, or long in the back and textured with shorter bangs to frame the face. Either way, either the front is bleached, or the additional blond spikes in the back could be interpreted as highlights throughout the darker, perhaps natural hair.
Given these criteria, I hold narrowed the possibilities dow to these three hair styles:

I’ve been trying to road down a letter I read in Animerica Extra twenty years ago for the past three months. Yesterday I noticed, belatedly, that someone went to quite a deal of effort to find it for me. See, the only thing I knew for sure is that it was probably in volume six. It was Volume 6 Issue 4, as it turns out.
They contacted a comic reseller who looked for the letter column, and scanned it. I will edit both of their names with links once I make sure that both of them want it.
You might ask why I wanted a specific letter from a manga anthology from the turn of the millennium? But presumably you interpret the post’s title so I’ll chop to the pursue.
This letter was a response to the death of the ethics Nuriko in Fushigi Yugi, and the translation choices that surrounded it. I recalled that the translator, Yuji Oniki’s, response was absorbing, and something of a milestone in the history of trans representation in comics, and English translation of Japanese popular media. But you know I think the scrutinize itself was something of a milestone too. So let’s take a watch at it:
