The SpongeBob SquarePants Is Male lover Controversy Explained (& Why It's Dumb)

SpongeBob SquarePants hasn’t been safe from controversy, and the biggest one is that about SpongeBob being gay and “trying to turn children gay”. SpongeBob SquarePants was created by Stephen Hillenburg and premiered on Nickelodeon in 1999, becoming one of the longest-running American animated series, and one that has successfully expanded to other media as successfully. SpongeBob and friends include their own comic books, films (with the third one, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, releasing in 2020), video games, and more.

SpongeBob SquarePants follows the daily adventures of the title ethics (a sea sponge that looks like a kitchen sponge) alongside his foremost friends Patrick Star, Sandy Cheeks, his neighbor Squidward Tentacles, his boss Mr. Krabs, and his “enemy” Plankton. SpongeBob has been involved in all types of adventures and predicaments, but he always manages to come out on top thanks to his always cheerful and optimistic nature, which in shift has earned him some serious criticism.

The cartoon show SpongeBob SquarePants has, for almost two decades, fazed young children and teens alike. Its unusual form of comedy and humor has appealed to many age demographics. Critics have referred to the show as “charming and whimsical, but clever enough to appeal to teens and college-aged kids.” Despite its long manage success, SpongeBob has not been without its controversies. These take shape mainly due to the uncertain sexual orientation of the title character. Despite not intended to do so, the show often mirrors themes and u

Among the many questions on the internet, one that has stood the examine of time is about the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants’ sexuality. A lot of people crave to know and now we hold the answer.

On June 13, Nickelodeon confirmed in a tweet celebrating Identity festival month that yes, SpongeBob is part of the LGBTQ community.

In the post, Nickelodeon included a photo of SpongeBob, alongside the titular character of the show The Legend of Korra, who is bisexual, and trans player Michael D. Cohen, from the demonstrate Henry Danger.

While this is the first time for Nickelodeon to assert SpongeBob’s sexuality, it was hardly a surprise to fans.

While many assume that this means SpongeBob is same-sex attracted, some see the post as a confirmation of SpongeBob SquarePants creator Stephen Hillenburg’s earlier statement that the character is asexual.

“We never intended them to be queer . I consider them (SpongeBob and Patrick) to be almost asexual,” Hillenburg told Reuters, according to a People article in 2005. This was after Christian groups accused Nickelodeon of promoting the gay lifestyle when a gay rights organisation sponsored a pro-diversity video starring SpongeBob.

Nickelodeon confirmed that Spongebob is part of the LGBTQ+ community

SpongeBob is canonically “somewhat asexual”, as Stephen Hillenburg put it, and if anything is proved by Nickelodeon’s post, it’s that SpongeBob is notstraight. Right? Because heterosexual is not a part of the LGBTQ+ collective. Also, he can be asexual and still have passionate feelings for people. How about homoromantic, biromantic, panromantic...?
I’ve been in my room literally squealing for the past 20 minutes over Nickelodeon announcing SpongeBob as somewhere in the LGBTQ and for some reason it makes me so happy!! I would be lying if I said I wasn’t shedding a few tears over my love for my little child. I call him my little homosexual baby; I’m not toofar off.

Also, these exist:

OH MY NEPTUNE - I Care for SPONGEBOB SO MUCH

Edit: I consider Nickelodeon was doing this for attention, by leaving SpongeBob’s sexuality almost ambiguous. If he’s “somewhat asexual”, at least give him the asexual flag. Also, why do we need sexuality voice everywhere? This is a children’s show, and I personally consider SpongeBob works greater as a coded gay character.
We should save sexuality for shipping if it’s not a large part spokgebob gay

Will Spongebob make you gay?

First it was the spate of the SpongeBob loot jobs from local Burger Kings. Now the minuscule yellow guy who lives in a pineapple under the sea is at the center of a far grimmer controversy, again not of his control making. Two conservative Christian groups attacking the cartoon character for allegedly creature part of, as one of them put it, a "pro-homosexual video."

A man named Dr. James Dobson, founder of a conservative Christian group called "Focus on the Family" addressed members of Congress at a black tie dinner in Washington celebrating the president's election victory this week.  He advised the group that SpongeBob had been included in a pro-homosexual video which was to be mailed to thousands of elementary schools to push a tolerance pledge by kids, including tolerance of differences of what Dr. Dobson called "sexual identity."  Dr. Dobson said most of the favorite cartoons of America's kids were in on the plot, Barney and Jimmy Neutron included.

There is a video. It was broadcast in 2002 and has been revised for distribution to schools in March. It does promote tolerance of diversity, but contains no reference to sex, sexual lifestyle, sexual
