Lauren Jauregui: Love Letter to the LGBTQ Community

For Gay Pride Month, Billboard asked numerous pop culture luminaries to write ‘love letters’ to the LGBTQ community. Below, Lauren Jauregui — who came out as bisexual in a brave, candid piece for Billboard after Trump’s election — shares hers. Read more Pride Month love letters here.

I think one of the most defining moments of study to find accurate self-acceptance was when I put it into a piece I wrote for Billboard those months ago. The Trump Campaign was really my breaking gesture as a bi-curious Cuban female creator. I incorporated those four particular adjectives because they were all parts of me that I felt were organism stripped away, questioned, threatened, and even invalidated by the continuous slew of ignorant conversation that his administration has been allowed to push. 

The way in which his campaign was run scared me. His apparent misogyny, his homophobia, his dismissal of the arts, and his incessant ideology pushing of minority communities as terrorists, rapists, and criminals truly made me feel terrified for my future and the future of the children growing

Fifth Harmony singer says she was warned against coming out as bisexual

— -- Fifth Harmony's Lauren Jauregui came out as attracted to both genders last November even though she said people advised her not to converse about it.

Jauregui, 21, said she was warned by family and friends and also by record-label executives who told her she shouldn't be so start about her personal life.

"A lot of artists are held back by the notion that they’ll forfeit their fan base or alienate themselves," she told Out magazine. "Even friends and family would explain me to keep it to myself. But the more I thought about it, the more I was like, 'Why?'"

"There’s this notion that artists are supposed to be dumb and frivolous," she added. "I completely disagree with that. Madonna, Bob Marley, John Lennon -- they didn’t talk about bull----."

ABC News reached out to Epic Records about Jauregui's claims, but didn't immediately hear back.

Jauregui said she's a bit uncomfortable with the word "bisexual" because it's too limited.

Fifth Harmony’s Lauren Jauregui Offers Support to Struggling LGBT+ Members: ‘Your Truth is Not Shameful’

On Monday darkness (Feb. 5) Fifth Harmony’sLauren Jauregui took to Twitter to console and extend advice to struggling members of the LGBT+ community.

It all began after Jauregui first shared a tweet that showed users responses to the question “What will you execute if your son comes out as GAY.”

With some users responding that they would kick the child out of the house or much worse if they were gay, Jauregui, who identifies as bisexual, stood up to the hateful social media send tweeting by writing, “This is such a disgusting present of toxic masculinity & a immersive ignorance of the expression of human sexuality.”

She continued her statement saying, “It is a spectrum that has no shame. It will be painful but it will direction you to your true family. Anyone who can aspire this on something they created is deeply troubled,” to which Twitter members of the LGBT+ community began to speak out and share their stories.

In real sassy form, she penned a letter on Billboard.com in response to the presidential election in America.

Writing, “I am a multi-attracted Cuban-American woman and I am so proud of it. I am satisfied to be part of a community that only projects love and awareness and the support of one another”. 

She was spotted kissing Lucy Vives last week during a family wedding and the photo quickly went viral with fans reposting the photo alongside supportive messages for the singer.

Fifth Harmony’s Lauren Jauregui says she was told not to come out

Sasha Colby didn’t set out to become “your favorite performative queen’s favorite drag queen.” It just kind of happened.

“You know, I was so stoned,” she admitted with a laugh, recalling the filming of her “Meet the Queens” promo. “We were about to sit down for the interview, and they were like, ‘Oh, just believe of something, like a catchphrase you want to say.’” What came out was a now-iconic term that captured the truth: Colby is the queen’s queen, beloved by legends, adored by fans, and deeply respected in her craft. “It came out of the deep crevices in here,” she said, pointing to her head.
