How to get a gay marriage license in new york
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Same-sex couples can apply for a New York Articulate marriage license origin Tuesday.
In New York City, the pre-applications for a $35 license can be submitted online on the City Clerk's web site only.
The certificates won't be issued until July 25, a time after the Marriage Equality Act takes effect.
State law generally requires couples linger 24 hours after receiving a license before they can tie the knot.
Under special circumstances, same-sex attracted and lesbian couples will be qualified to obtain a waiver from a judge and receive married immediately. Most other same-sex couples would be allowed to get hitched the next time, on July 26.
If demand is sky-high enough, the Urban area Clerk's Office is prepared to extend its hours and construct more judges free to perform civil ceremonies.
It is estimated between license fees, banquets, parties and rehearsal dinners, same-sex marriage could add as much as $140 million to the city's economy.
Meanwhile, a Long Island religious group wants the issue of same-sex attracted marriage to be put on the ballot for the people of Recent York to vote on.

What is the Marriage Equality Act?

The Marriage Equality Act removes these barriers by amending New York’s Domestic Relations Rule to state: (i) A marriage that is otherwise valid will be valid regardless of whether the parties are of the identical or opposite sex; (ii) No government treatment or legal status, effect, right, benefit, privilege, protection or responsibility relating to marriage shall differ based on the parties entity the same sex or opposite sex; (iii) All relevant gender-specific language referenced by New York law will be construed in a gender neutral manner; and (iv) No application for a marriage license will denied on the ground that the parties are of the same or opposite sex.
